New York--(lawntennismag.com) Our picks for Sunday:
Roger Federer (SUI)[1] v. Novak Djokovic (SRB)[3] Arthur Ashe Stadium –1st singles match
World number one Roger Federer of Switzerland leads Novak Djokovic of Serbia head to head 4-1 but dropped their last meeting this summer on
the hardcourts in Montreal 7-6(7-2), 2-6, 7-6(7-2). The men's game is quickly becoming a Steffi Graf-like sport where one or two players dominate in
the grand slams. This is part of why I'm rooting for the upset today. Roger Federer has won the US Open the last three years and has
been number one more than any man in the history of the game. If one player is that good then he deserves to win, but it's not the best result
for the sport.
Djokovic has the game and the belief that he can defeat Federer. He just has to execute his gameplan of holding serve and hitting
big from the baseline and attacking at the net. If Novak can play his best tennis, then he has a chance to win. Otherwise Federer will win again
in what has become an expected result.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic
