John Isner Overpowers Juan Martin del Potro In Miami Semifinal MIAMI-- Friday in the Miami Open semifinals at Miami, Florida, the 14th seeded six feet ten inches tall American John Isner used a combination of powerful forehands and serves to top the 5th seeded and tournament favorite Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina 6-1, 7-6(7-2).

Del Potro; perhaps physically limited following several three setters in Miami and as well as Indian Wells, started the match slowly slicing many backhands in lieu of hitting his normal two handed backhand.

Serving ahead 3-2, Isner struck a 137 miles per hour serve out wide which forced a netted crosscourt backhand return from del Potro.

On the following point, Isner hit his 13th ace of the day down the tee at 139 miles per hour to lead 5-2 in the tiebreaker.

Then after one hour and twenty-three minutes of play, Isner struck a crosscourt backhand volley winner to end the match.
