Agnieszka Radwanska Outlasts Venus Williams in Montreal Final MONTREAL--Sunday at the Roger’s Cup at Montreal, Canada, the unseeded Venus Williams of the USA was unable to continue her winning streak as she fell 6-4, 6-2 in the championship match to the third ranked Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

Williams had won five matches earlier in the week to reach the final, four of them three setters, but today appeared not as sharp or consistent or as willing to engage in longer rallies.

As the match started, Williams was forced to hit two or three shots which would be winners against most players in order to score one winner

Despite the disappointing day for Williams, the American can take some consolation in that she has moved as of Monday from 26th to 20th in the WTA Tour rankings as she continues her comeback from injuries.

Running down ball after ball, Radwanska held serve to pull ahead 3-1 in the following game.

Williams then hit two consecutive double faults, followed by a forehand and a backhand error to lose serve and trail 1-4.

Serving at 1-4, Radwanska double faulted to fall behind 0-15.

Williams then hit a forehand down the line return winner followed by a backhand down the line return winner to lead 40-0. The game reached three deuces as Williams committed several errors before the American would hit two additional baseline winners to break serve to reach 2-4.

Williams held serve to reach 3-4.

In the following game with Radwanska serving, Williams hit two forehand winners to set up two breakpoints, but failed to convert either as she committed several forehand errors as Radwanska held serve to lead 5-3.

Serving down 3-5, Williams hit a forehand down the line winner, and an inside out down the line forehand swing volley winner to hold serve at love to reach 4-5.

With Radwanska serving for the set, Williams hit a forehand down the line winner to lead 15-0 before committing one forehand and three backhand errors to drop the set. In set two, Radwanska’s consistency and more Williams errors led to Radwanska to lead 2-0 before Williams rallied to level the set at 2 all.

With Williams serving, the American committed three baseline errors and a double fault to drop serve and fall behind 2-3.

Radwanska would win the final three games of the match again as Williams was unable or unwilling to stay in longer rallies and committed several additional unforced errors to finish the day with 41 unforced errors to 25 winners.

Williams for the day had only converted two of ten breakpoints chances after one hour and two minutes of play.
