The WTA Tour world number one Serena Williams of the USA or her sister the world number two Venus Williams have won eight of the last ten womens’ singles Championships. A Williams sister has reached the London final nine of the last ten years; more often than not only to face her sister.

Venus Williams’ Wimbledon singles title total stands at five while Serena Williams’ total is three. Last year Serena Williams defeated Venus Williams in the Wimbledon final 7-6(7-3), 6-2.

The ATP Tour world number two Roger Federer of Switzerland has taken the men’s singles title at Wimbledon six of the last seven years. The Swiss reached the London final the last seven years.

In last year’s men’s final, Federer defeated Andy Roddick of the USA 5-7, 7-6(8-6), 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 16-14. From 2003-2008, Federer won 40 Wimbledon matches in a row.

However Sunday the Swiss suffered a minor setback as he slumped to a rare grasscourt defeat 3-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-4 to Hewitt at the Gerry Weber Open at Halle, Germany. Before the match, Federer had went 76-1 on grass since 2003.

At the Queen’s Club final in London, England, Sam Querrey topped his good friend and fellow American Mardy Fish 7-6(7-3), 7-5.

While in women’s tennis at the Aegon Classic at Birmingham, England, the former world number one and 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova encountered serving problems to lose the championship final to Na Li 7-5, 6-1.
