Shanghai--(lawntennismag.com) Wednesday in round robin play at the ATP Tour's season ending tournament, the Masters Cup, world number one Roger Federer of Switzerland faces Nikolay Davydenko of Russia as Federer looks to bounce back after a rare two match losing streak.

"To start off the round robin matches with a loss is something I haven't always had to deal with, because usually you lose and you leave," Federer said. "I hope I can play well in the next two matches."

Federer lost his first match this week at Shanghai to Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 3-6, 7-6(7-1), 7-5. He also lost in the third round in his previous tournament, the BNP Paribas Masters to David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-4, 7-6(7-3). Federer is 65-8 for the year with seven singles titles won including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Head to head Federer leads Davydenko 10-0 last winning at this year's US Open semifinals 7-5, 6-1, 7-5. Davydenko is playing very well as we saw in his near upset of the American Andy Roddick Monday. But I think Federer will not want to lose three matches in a row for sure.

If Davydenko can hit big and early as he did in set two versus Roddick, he will have his chances against Federer, however I don't feel his game will be strong enough or persistent enough to take Federer.

Our pick: Roger Federer in straight sets.
